The Legacy Mural was created to celebrate and honor the North Nashville community, paying tribute to our elders and the emerging generation. In collaboration with artists C3, Etomik, Keep3, community members, and Liberated Ground, we completed a 4,000-square-foot mural on historic Jefferson Street. Central to the mural is a baton engraved with "37208," the community's zip code, symbolizing the passing of legacy from one generation to the next. The word "Legacy" prominently stretches across the wall in bold orange graffiti style lettering. Throughout the mural, imagery reflects North Nashville's vibrant history and culture, including representations of the three historic HBCUs located on Jefferson Street—Tennessee State University, Fisk University, and Meharry Medical College—as well as iconic figures like Wilma Rudolph running atop books, symbolizing education and achievement.
Norf Wall Fest
In the summer of 2021 during a two-month span of creating this mural, we shut down Jefferson Street to host "Norf Wall Fest," a vibrant community festival originally founded by Woke3 in 2015. Community members of all ages came together for this free, family-friendly event, enjoying shopping with local vendors, interactive painting sessions, games, bounce houses for children, live performances, and observing firsthand the mural creation process.
Norf Wall Fest was established to bring meaningful murals to the North Nashville community, addressing important social issues and celebrating the rich culture and history of the area.
"I created Norf Wall Fest because we didn't have much art around the community, and ever since high school I've wanted to see conscious street art throughout our neighborhood—art that uplifts and empowers people. The goal has always been to bring artists together for collaborative projects and to give community members an inside look at the process behind large-scale murals."
This was only the second Norf Wall Fest since its inception in 2015, but our hope is to continue this meaningful project annually, providing local artists with opportunities to showcase their talents and create powerful street art that authentically captures the spirit and energy of North Nashville.
"The larger the wall, the bigger the message."
Murals aren't just artwork—they are powerful statements that amplify the voices, stories, and spirit of our community
